Sourland Conservancy Ecological Restoration Internship

Skillman, NJ
$7,500

Green Matters was quickly convinced that sponsoring an internship for this well-run and effective nonprofit dedicated to preserving the unique ecosystem that is The Sourlands was worthwhile.

In spring 2024, interns Sam Guman and Danielle Deering planted native trees, shrubs, and flowers; installed deer fences; managed invasive species; and led volunteer groups. They are pictured here at a planting event in Baldpate Mountain, where they joined Mercer County Stewardship staff and volunteers to plant swamp white oak, red oak, flowering dogwood, and lowbush blueberry.

Since 2020, the Sourland Conservancy’s staff, volunteers, and interns have partnered with landowners in the region to plant 45,000 native trees and shrubs. These plantings will help offset the loss of over one million trees due to the invasive emerald ash borer.
